Book Review: Lakeshire Park by Megan Walker

This post was generously sponsored with an Advanced Reader Copy for my review. All opinions expressed herein are mine.

If you know anything about me, you know that I love to read. And right now my favorite genre are Regency Romance books. But I'm quite picky about the types of books I will read from this genre. I like books very clean so when I discovered the "Proper Romance" collection from Shadow Mountain Publishing, I was thrilled to see many titles to choose from. Recently they sent me a book to review titled "Lakeshire Park" by Megan Walker. It seemed right up my alley, and I was not disappointed.

Here's a brief synopsis of the title:

Brighton, England 1820

Amelia Moore wants only one thing—to secure the future happiness of her younger sister, Clara. With their stepfather’s looming death, the two sisters will soon be on their own—without family, a home, or a penny to their names. When an invitation arrives to join a house party at Lakeshire Park, Amelia grasps at the chance. If she can encourage a match between Clara and their host, Sir Ronald, then at least her sister will be taken care of.

Little does she know that another guest, the arrogant and overconfident Mr. Peter Wood, is after the same goal for his own sister. Amelia and Peter begin a rivalry that Amelia has no choice but to win. But competing against Peter—and eventually playing by his rules—makes Amelia vulnerable to losing the only thing she has left to claim: her heart.

My Review:

The character development of Miss Amelia Moore is delightful. Her desire to both serve her sister and reconcile her heart to love was perfectly depicted in this book as she moves from uptight and full of distrust and unhappiness to playful, and sweet. I like a girl who can stand up to the male character, and Amelia more than delivers. Mr. Peter Wood is a tease and the perfect companion for Amelia, but it takes her and the reader a while to understand how perfectly they are matched.

Megan, the author, does a wonderful job of creating a believable, beautiful setting in this title. Her characters are well-developed, relatable, and fun. I couldn't put this book down as I waited to see how Amelia and Peter resolved their issues. I would definitely recommend this book! And I'm looking forward to more titles from Megan Walker. She delivers a perfect read with realism, trials, hope and then triumph.
