Wood Slice Chalkboard Games Tutorial:

Step 1: Paint a oval shape just inside the wood slice on one side. You can use any acrylic paint you'd like. You don't have to use chalkboard paint, but you will need a dark enough shade that the white chalk will easily show on the surface. I was going to use yellow and then realized it wasn't dark enough.

Step 2: Paint the insides of the outline shape. I painted 3-4 coats per wood slice to get nice, deep and even color. Make sure your painting is as smooth as possible or when you use the chalk it will have bumps.

Step 3: Use a chalk pencil or chalk to draw a variety of games on each wood slice. You can use a permanent white paint pen to outline games like the grid for Tic Tac Toe, or you can simply use each wood slice plain. Some games to consider: Hangman, Pictionary, etc.

These wood slices are about 4" in diameter. I wouldn't go any smaller than this for a game surface. You can also make a game surface that is larger if you'd like. Simply look for larger slices.

When selecting colors think of masculine colors if this project is for Dad, or summer colors for an outdoor game, or feminine colors (but in dark shades) for a little girl. So many possibilities!
