Master Bedroom Before:
This is one of the realtor photos when we were looking at our home. When we actually toured the home there was nothing in the room. It felt a little small, and cramped and even one of my friends commented that it seemed that way. But I knew it had more potential, and I couldn't wait to discover it.The first thing that changed was the flooring. When we redid the Great Room flooring, we continued the dark laminate wood into our Master Bedroom, which is just off the Great Room. This really opened up the space. My friend coming back through for a tour later, couldn't get over how much bigger the space appeared with the new floor. Magic I tell you! Magic!
One of the things that inspired the change in this room were these two curtains I found at TJ Maxx. Both were the exact shade of yellow as my space. And while I had thought about changing the paint color, I wondered if I could instead make it shine. I asked my internet friends which pair they liked, and I chose the bird pattern because I liked the white background to lighten the space.
We have had this queen bed set for a long time. It has been a wonderful set and lasted for many years. But my husband and I were more than ready to upgrade to a king size bed (I guess all my tossing and turning and his snoring finally drove us to the edge). Even before we had started bed shopping, I found this awesome linen headboard at the At Home store for about $250. That was a steal of a deal for me, so I bought it, kept it in the box until we found our bed.
Bed shopping was not my favorite thing. When did beds start costing as much as a car? Seriously! It was really discouraging. And the looks we got every time we told them we like a nice firm mattress were like we were from another planet. Another thing we nixed on our bed? NO MEMORY FOAM! I'm a cool seeker and my toes are always looking for the coldest part of the bed. And memory foam is always hot to me. I wasn't having it. We finally found another steal of a deal at a warehouse called R and S Mattress and our bed was delivered within a week.
Master Bedroom After:
The rest of the room came together fairly quickly. Many of the items I had already owned and simply brought in here to decorate. Some of the items like the cool Ikea chair were donated by my dad who is a Designer and often sends cast-offs my way (thanks, Dad!). Here's a look at the "AFTER" photos.
(Mirror: Home Depot, Headboard: At Home; Bedding: Target; Pillows and Throw: TJ Maxx; Side Tables: Walmart; Bench: Downeast; Rug: Pier 1; Lamps and Shades: Target; Black Mirror: Ikea)
(Shelf: Antique; Chair: Ikea; Yellow Blanket and Gold Mirrors: Target; Shelf Decor: Hobby Lobby, Michaels, TJ Maxx)
(Headboard: At Home; Pillows: TJ Maxx; Bedding: Target)
(Curtains: TJ Maxx, Gold Leaf: TJ Maxx, White Lantern: Pier 1, Gold Plate: Antique, Photo Frames: Walmart)
(Shelf: Antique, Decor: Homegoods, TJ Maxx, Thrift Stores, Antique Stores; Mirrors: Target)
Things I still plan on updating include changing out the light for something that better fits the room. I also have a fireplace remodel in mind, but that won't be for another couple years (there are other rooms that have priority first).
I really love that we were able to make the paint color work. I've always wanted to try yellow in my home decor; and it totally works in this room. It still feels light and airy but also very cozy.

It's gorgeous! I need to come over and help me (which is just really sad since my major in college was interior design). LOL! I think my problem is I never have time to leave my craft studio. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe new floor looks great and the color scheme is also beuatiful. I like little accents like the wooden bookshelf make the difference.
ReplyDeleteI do believe, it will be harder to find someone who does not love to get her room cozy and brilliant look. I just stepped into your Master bedroom and feel wonder seeing the before and after look of your room. It's really love and adorable. Love it seriously.

Same goes for a doll house bed or a white and pink princess castle. If you can afford it buy your kids their dream bed and few years later you can buy them another full over full bunk bed. triple bunk bed
ReplyDeletehypoallergenic, and adapts to keep you snug in winter nights and cool in hot summers. Bacteria should not live in natural latex foam. Not every type of latex rubber foam is the same. A fashionable make of latex foam, "Talalay" latex mattress pads are made using a high tech process, which is known to produce a very sleep inducing but also considerably more costly mattress. peterbilt
