Secret Formula #1: Sizzling Summer

One thing I often hear is that people want to know my process. How do I go about picking items that work well together? How do I know what paper to combine with what embellishments? It's sometimes a tricky process so I thought it would be fun to share a "Secret Formula" with you every now and then for how I might approach creating a layout. Each formula will combine papers with embellishments that you can then use to create your own project (or shop your own stash for similar items).

Hopefully this will help develop your own scientific method for scrapbooking!

Once you've decided upon your topic, start shopping!

1. Start with the sticker! Use the sticker for embellishments as well as the jumping off point for your color scheme.

2. Shop your paper stash! Don't worry about selecting papers from the same brand or collection. Simply match the pattern to your stickers.

Find a pink paper:

Find a blue paper:

Find a red paper:

Find a yellow paper:

3. Add additional embellishments! Look for fibers such as twine, brads, tags, etc. that match the theme of the layout.

Twine:

Brads:

Etc:

Here's what it looks like all combined:

Keep watching for additional "Secret Formula" posts coming soon. If you have a special request or theme you'd like to see for this, let me know! I'd love to point you in the right direction.

  2. It's great to see how to start it all off. That is my one stumbling block with scrapbooking. I don't know how to start the whole thing off and what to lay down first!!!

  3. I get stuck in the rut of trying to use one paper line so papers match. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more secrets. I think grouping embellishments is the hardest for me. Secrets, please.
