Spring No Sew Felt Flower Banner Tutorial

Spring is upon us and that means time to get some spring crafting on. For today's project, we'll focus on a spring felt banner that features felt flowers. While you can easily create your own felt flowers, there are lots of pre-made felt flowers on the market. Check Esty, Jillibean Soup, or your local hobby and craft store. Here's a look at the sweet banner we'll make today:

Step 1: Gather your supplies: 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of dark grey felt, 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of teal felt (or green if you prefer green leaves), felt flowers, pom pom trim, a 9" dowel, and felt glue.

Step 2: Measure about 4" to 5" from the bottom of the felt (lengthwise) and make a mark with a pencil. Do the same thing on the opposite side. Fold the felt in half and cut from the bottom, center of the felt up to the pencil marks and then unfold. This will form the banner.

Step 3: Use the felt glue to wrap the felt around the dowel. Make sure the dowel has equal parts of the wood showing on each side. (My dowel was pre-cut, but you can cut down any dowel to fit your project. Mine are about 1/2" in diameter.)

Step 4: Hand cut leaf shapes from the teal (or green) felt. You can create a paper template or simply hand-cut whatever shape and style of leaf you like.

Step 5: Glue the pre-made felt flowers and leaves to the felt banner. Flowers should be clustered tightly together. I used three similar, white felt flowers to keep the cluster feeling cohesive. But mix it up to fit your decor style.

Step 6: When the front is dry, turn over the banner and glue the pom pom trim to the bottom edges of the banner. Let dry.

Step 7: You can use crochet twine, string, or ribbon to hang your banner. Simply tie the twine to each side of the dowel and then hang.

Here's a look at the banner. A standard size of felt from any craft store creates a good size banner. You can make a larger one, by ordering or purchasing larger pieces of felt. But since this felt was under a dollar, it was a great buy!

One thing to note: keep your string from being too long. Adjust the knots on the dowels if the banner feels like it is hanging too low.

Here's another look at the banner. Take a moment to pin your favorite images to Pinterest. This will help remind you of this tutorial when you're ready to get crafting. This craft is perfect for kids, a craft group, or a night out with friends. It comes together easily and doesn't take much time to create. That's my favorite kind of craft!
