I am so into felt right now. I wanted to create a touchable, felt frame insert for a little girl's room or for a spring home decor project. So I created this scallop felt frame tutorial. I've included all the step-out photos and instructions so you can recreate this project. It's an easy Spring DIY Craft you can alter to fit the phrase or theme you want to make. Here's a look at the frame:

Bloom Scallop Felt Frame Tutorial:

Step 1: Gather your supplies: a frame, the wooden word you want to use (the one I chose extends past my frame so I could glue it to the outside frame), felt in the colors you wish you use, and a glue gun. Not pictured: manual die cut machine and a rounded tag die. NOTE: I did not end up using the felt flowers. I liked it without them.

Step 2: Measure the width of your frame. Then choose a die cut or create your own scallop template on paper. Cut enough of each color of felt to fit across the width of the frame. Cut two extra scallops for the places where you will extend past the edges. I used a die cut from Echo Park Paper and the Sizzix Big Shot Die Cut Machine. If you create your own template you can trace the template onto the felt and cut out each shape with fabric scissors. My tag measure about 1.5" W x 2.25" T to give you an idea of how long my scallops were. (NOTE: I kept the hole inside each tag as I wanted it to look like a solid scallop shape.)

Step 3: If your frame insert is removable, take it out and trace the frame edges on it with a pencil.

Step 4: Start with the bottom of the frame. Glue a .75" T by the width of the frame straight piece of felt along the bottom of the frame, right along the bottom edge of the insert. Use the same color as your bottom scallops. You can cut more than one piece and join them together. I used hot glue for this project.

Step 5: Start by gluing the scallops onto the insert. Make sure the bottom of each scallop will show when you place the insert back into the frame. Make sure each scallop touches the next scallop and that the top of the scallops are in a straight line.

Step 6: For the next row, offset the scallops and then continue the pattern. For the ends, glue the extra scallops onto the edges and then trim off any excess felt.

Step 7: I used four different colors of felt for this frame. You can use as many colors as you want. Just like at the bottom of the frame, for the top of the frame, glue a straight strip of the same colored felt as the scallops you will use for the top row. This time the flat edge of the scallop should go just under the frame.

This is how the frame will look when it's put back together.

Step 8: Hot glue the word to the outside of the frame and hang.

  2. Crafting a Bloom Scallop Felt Frame is like embarking on a creative journey, much akin to the insightful process of watching an Explainer Video. Both activities guide us step by step, turning complex details into something beautiful and easy to understand. Whether creating a frame or absorbing information, the joy lies in the transformative experience and the satisfaction of a job well done!"
