Great Room Renovation Update

We've been in this house now for 2 years, and I'm realizing that making it my own will take some time, and patience. But what I love about having to take my time is the ability to think through what I'd really like to accomplish. I thought today I would share my Great Room update. Here's what this room looked like when we bought it:

And here's some "after" picture:

What's next for this space? We are renovating the fireplace niche, which looked like this:

I have a few design ideas in mind, but what would you do with this fireplace?

  1. I look fantastic Jen! Love your color scheme. Not sure on the fireplace....will have to think on it. I have a floor to ceiling brick one in my family room that I really want to paint white. But, I am terrified to do it. I am being a wimp. Glad you are feeling better also. Take care.

    1. I get nervous to try new things too, but a whitewashed fireplace would be gorgeous. :)

  2. You have made your room so lovely. It is always fun to put your own stamp on your home. No ideas for the fireplace. i am too old to have the new, hip ideas for the fireplace but am not too bad at all the other ideas. Love yours!

PS the new flooring looks fabulous!

  3. Dear Jen,
I am a German reader of your blog. So my style might be different to american style. I love your fireplace. I would paint the wall over the fireplace white ( the same color like your TV rack ) and hang a beautiful Family picture or a wreath on the wall.

  6. This turned out incredible! You have such a great eye for design! So much more soothing... Loving the blues! For the fireplace it might look cool to remove the current stone and do a new stone the whole length with a floating mantel like the one here:

I also love the idea of encasing it with some beautiful wood work to match your TV cabinet like you see here:

I'm sure whatever you decide, it will be gorgeous! :)

  10. I had to look at the pictures a second time to realize it was the same house. You have to be so proud how the end result came out. The before pictures are no where near the finished product. The house looks so inviting, you are going to really get some quality time of of the entire house now I bet.
