Updating a Great Room from Brown To Grey

I thought you might be interested in seeing some of the updated photos from our new great room. You might have read all about our VERY brown great room (and kitchen) in this post HERE. If not, take a moment to do so. Even I am shocked by the transitions we've been making in the space.

When we first bought the house, I had a very strong vision of where I wanted to take the remodel. I had a LOT of doubters who tried to discourage me from making any changes at all. But I knew in my heart what I wanted to accomplish. (I'm so glad I didn't listen and did what I wanted all along.)

While we are still in the process of decorating, I wanted to share where we are at right now. Here's a look around the space as it stands right now:

Paint transitions from glazed wall to Benjamin Moore "Revere Pewter" during the first few days.

Looking into the kitchen as they prepare to spray the baseboards white.

My new entryway (rug scored from Homegoods--my new favorite rug).

The great room as it stands today. The current furniture placement is to help me see what I need to purchase and in what scale.

What's next? We need to finish up the fireplace remodel. We need to purchase a new couch and some larger, more comfy chairs. Then I'll finish up the decor and get everything situated where I want it. But not bad for a few weeks of intense remodeling, right?

I have loved updating my homes. I always have. Look for weekly updates in 2016 here on the blog as I share some of my decorating and home decor updates. Be sure to tune in each week, as I share a new idea or space. Be notified of new updates via email by subscribing to my newsletter HERE. I also regularly share updates on Instagram. 1. That grey and white is beautiful! We love brown, but I don't think on the walls. I love what you said (maybe in the other post) about envisioning something and wanting it no matter what people say. We are renters and are therefore limited, but it is amazing what we do with our homes we live in.

    1. We rented for many, many years. I made changes with temporary things like curtains, colored pillows, rugs, etc. That way I still got my happy place. :) Thanks for taking the time to comment!

  3. Oh, oh, oh! It is SO beautiful! So light and airy! I absolutely love your paint choice. I, too, hate the idea of living in brown walls (and I did for 2 years in our very cute first house), and I could almost feel the oppressiveness as you described it in your first post. I LOVE how it turned out. Your decor is beautiful and I hope that your changes continue to progress smoothly!

  6. It looks beautiful, Jen!!! I love the revere pewter. I think I may put it in the basement (thanks to seeing your house ;) ... if we can ever get that sheet rocked taped/mudded.) Aren't home projects fun (well most the time)? I love seeing the transition take place.

I have spent the last few years staining/varnishing solid wood doors for the top two floors of our two story. They are the same style as yours. :) We have our floor installed, and I LOVE it. We painted before the floors were installed. While Greg wasn't thrilled with a gray/grey color, we compromised on a light creamy color with the compromise of it going in the basement. Everything is on hold for now. Furnace is on the fritz, and the water heater died this morning. It was a cold shower for me this morning! Eeek!
