Memories Made #6: Super Hero Brother (Manual Die Cuts)

Welcome back to my scrapbooking tutorial series called "Memories Made with Jen Gallacher." In this series I pick a memory I want to include in my scrapbooks. Then I'll create the layout start-to-finish all while sharing some tips and tricks for using the papers, embellishments, and products I've chosen.

Be sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel HERE to be notified of when I upload a brand new video. You don't want to miss out on any of these fun tutorials!

This week's memory: My Two Sons

My oldest son, Joey, passed away six years ago from cancer. James was only four years old at the time. Unfortunately that means he doesn't remember a lot about his big brother. He doesn't remember what he looks like. He doesn't remember how he sounded. And he doesn't really remember their relationship.

Not wanting him to forget any of those things, I try to capture their relationship in my layouts as much as possible. This layout uses a candid photo I took of the two of them just before we moved across the country to return home to live near family. Because the photo was so grainy I changed it to black and white so rather than see the poor quality of the photo, you can focus on the subjects in the photo.

This week's technique: A stamped border and Manual die cutting

For this week's techniques, I wanted to show you how you can easily incorporate a stamp by creating a border of one word repeatedly stamped over and over again. I also used a manual die cut machine to cut a shape from patterned paper. Manual die cut tools and machines are great for cutting thicker materials, but they also work great with paper.

You can watch the helpful, start-to-finish video tutorial HERE on my Youtube channel or below. Watch for ways I combined older product with new products. You can use similar items to recreate this fun layout:

Below I've suggested the products you might consider when creating a similar layout (including the products used on this layout). If an item is out of stock be sure to search for similar items by using words like "boy" or "stamps" to help you find exactly what you're looking for.

Another beautiful layout, I absolutely adore your work Jen. I truthfully have not disliked one project that you have ever made. Thank you for your wonderful videos too, I really enjoy watching your process.
I would also like to tell you that whenever I see photos of your beautiful boy, it brings tears to my eyes and an ache in my heart. Maybe because he looks a little like my own beautiful boy. Thank you for sharing your precious memories, it helps to remind me just how important scrapping is and how the story is so much more important than the products.
Love and best wishes to you and your family,
    Beck x

I wish I could give you a hug. Your memories will come when you are ready and may God bless you and your lovely family.

  5. So much to love about this project! Not the least of which is how precious life is and how important it is to document those relationships that matter the most so that they can be celebrated, understood and remembered later.
Thanks for opening up your life. It's one of the things I love about scrapbooking. It's like a window into the soul.
