Memories Made #5: You Are Awesome (Vintage Design)

Welcome to this week's  "Memories Made with Jen Gallacher." In this series I pick a memory I want to include in my scrapbooks. Then I'll create the layout start-to-finish all while sharing some tips and tricks for using the papers, embellishments, and products I've chosen.

Be sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel HERE to be notified of when I upload a brand new video. You don't want to miss out on any of these fun tutorials!

This week's memory: My Mom

Layouts like these are called "tribute" layouts because the journaling, style, and all components are a tribute to the person you care about. I try to never miss out on an opportunity to tell someone that I care about them in the journaling, and this time was no different.

This is what the journaling reads:

So much of the good in me comes from you, Mom. The desire to be "good," to do the right thing, to work hard, to better myself. It all comes from your example. The way you believe in me. The way you always have my back. The amazing woman you are is so much of whom I hope someday to be. Thank you for all the sacrifices and the love, Mom.

This week's technique: Selecting Items for a Traditional, Vintage Layout

Because my mom is obviously very important to me, I wanted the layout to reflect her personal style and sweet nature.  For this week's technique, I shopped my supplies for items that were vintage, feminine, and reflected her love of sewing, reading and so forth. These are subtle elements that add to the overall feeling of the layout. You can create this feeling by purposely selecting pieces that help support the theme of your layout.

You can watch the helpful, start-to-finish video tutorial HERE on my Youtube channel or below. Listen for the reasons I selected a certain paper or embellishment. I'll also share some reasons why I select colored photos over black and white photos and vice versa:

Below I've suggested the products you might consider when creating a similar layout (including the products used on this layout). If an item is out of stock be sure to search for similar items by using words like "vintage" or "sew" to help you find exactly what you're looking for. (NOTE: the die cut heart mentioned in the video is actually from Elizabeth Kartchner's "Dear Lizzy" collection and is shown below.)

  1. I tend to forget to design a page around what the subject or person is all about, instead just using items that I'm in love with. Thanks for the reminder, it's a great tip and I really like your LO!
