Lego Challenge: The Dinosaur Dig

Every child says it and feels it. The "I'm bored!" syndrome sets in any time they have five minutes of uninterrupted play or entertainment time. Sometimes it's frustrating and sometimes I understand. How to handle it always becomes a bit of a challenge, however. Sometimes I simply say, "I'm sorry" and allow the child to figure things out on their own. Sometimes I try to suggest a few things they might try. Today, however, my son came up with his own bit of fun.

The Dinosaur Dig Challenge

For this challenge you will need a grey Lego plate and some dinosaurs (Lego or otherwise):

You'll also need some devoted Paleontologists with their trusty digging tools:

Then challenge your child to choose a dinosaur from their collection. Have your child layer white Lego building bricks in a formation that matches the dinosaur.

In the end the dinosaur toy should match the brick shape.

The final result allows the child to then play at the dig site. This activity will provide hours of fun and helps challenge your child to think of creative engineering approaches to building the shapes. You won't be hearing "I'm bored" for at least an hour or two with this activity.
