How To: Use Neon on a Layout

One trend that began popping up at last year's CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) tradeshow were bright, neon elements. I was a child of the 80's, and I distinctly remember the bright neon colors we wore to school each day. My touch of neon was a bright pink sweatshirt that I adored. It's been surprising to see this trend return. You can find colored jeans, shoes, and lots of clothing items in these bright, fresh colors.

So how does this trend translate onto a scrapbook layout? Here are a few ideas to help you get started:

Idea #1: Mix bright tones with softer tones. The yellow and orange elements are in hot neon colors, but the blue is a much softer tone. This transition from hot to softer tones keeps the layout colors from becoming too overwhelming.

Idea #2: Add in a neutral color to allow the eye to rest. Use touches of white or tan to give the eye a place to rest from all the bright and busy colors.

Idea #3: Convert your photos to black and white to allow the hot colors to take center stage. This allows your photos to easily mesh with these bright colors no matter what colors the subject was wearing.

You can find many brightly colored items to use on your layouts. Here are a few suggestions you might already have on hand or can add to your supplies to give this hot trend a try. You can also search by "bright" or "neon" in the 2Peas store for additional product suggestions.
