Product Focus Week 1: Buttons

Welcome to a new blog post feature called "Product Focus." In these weekly blog posts, I'll share a scrapbooking product I'm particularly drawn to, and then share some ways I've used the product in a project. I'll point out tips and tricks for using the product, share some of my favorite products from that product line, and then I'll open it up for any questions you might have. I'd also love to hear your reviews or uses for the product I focus on each week. This is a chance for you to pull out products you already own and play with them or for you to discover new product you might not have yet tried.

This week I wanted to focus on a product basic: buttons. Whether you're a paper crafter, a seamstress, or a scrapbooker you likely have buttons somewhere in your stash. Buttons come in all different sizes, colors, and textures. You can find them in fabric, plastic, wood, and chipboard.

Here are a few of my favorite button products (click the photos for links to the products):

Below you will find a gallery of projects that use buttons. Hopefully these will give you some new ideas for using buttons on your projects.

Idea #1: Use them to tie down ribbons:

Idea #2: Use them to "fill" an element on the page (see the truck wheels):

Idea #3: Create a banner of buttons:

I'd like to ask here how you are using buttons. Have you tried replacing the letter "O" in your title with a button. Have you filled a die cut shape with buttons of all sizes and shapes? Have you strung buttons across your page in a banner? Share your completed projects through links in the comments section or by sharing your ideas with the other readers. If you have a question about buttons, please post it in the comments section below. I will answer some of them in my next "Product Focus" post, and I may just feature one of your projects in an upcoming post.

Be sure to check back tonight for a SPECIAL blog hop which involves lots and lots of giveaways! Or sign up to receive my blog posts by email to immediately be updated to new blog posts and giveaways!

  1. I'm addicted to buttons (I really realized this the other day when I was searching for some and found like 3 craft organizers FULL of them). You're layout examples are amazing--Love the bright, happy colors and the overall layout design! :)

  3. There was a layout that I loved with a great button idea, I think it was Nancy Damiano's page from a Memory Monday video. She placed buttons behind a diecut negative and it was super cute!! I am really loving your idea with the ribbons on the first example. Thanks for renewing my interest in buttons :)

  5. happy New Year. I love to use buttons to fill in tree shapes. Do you stress over the thickness of buttons? I am always trying to find the "flat" ones.

And they're really great to just add that little something extra to your embellishments...

  8. I also tend to mostly use buttons for flower-related embellishments. I LOVE the idea for this series, Jen. Great 1st focus - the banner out of buttons is just brilliant! Can't wait to see what else you have for us this yr!

  9. Ohhhh I like buttons too. I use them to fill in a place that I think just needs "something". I like to fill them with waxy thread, jute or bakers twine. I've also used them to make 12"borders and also borders on cards.
