2Peas Memory Keeping Monday + VIDEO

I wanted to share this week's "Memory Keeping Monday" project and video with you today. Each Monday at 2Peas, one of the Garden Girl hosts a quick tutorial on creating a layout start-to-finish. We take turns discussing product options, memories you might want to record, and approaches for telling your stories.

This week I wanted to show you how you can stretch a collection kit when designing a layout. Collection kits include patterned paper and typically stickers. Some manufacturers also include additional embellishments within their kits. Be sure to read the product descriptions before buying a kit so you know what you are getting.

For this project I focused on the Echo Park Paper "For the Record 2: Documented" collection kit:

You can find this kit HERE at 2Peas!

Here is the layout I created using this kit:

And here is a detail shot of the page:

Here is the video which features this layout's start-to-finish process:

Stretching a Collection Kit:

#1 Die Cut Shapes from the Paper: I used my Silhouette machine to die cut a file folder shape and number "9" from the green patterned paper.

#2 Cut Paper into Shapes: I hand cut the patterned paper into pennant shapes for my layout. You could also fussy cut items from the patterned paper.

#3 Print Journaling on the Paper: I printed my journaling directly onto the pale blue patterned paper. You could also stamp on any of the tone-on-tone patterns in this collection.

#4 Give Stickers Dimension: When I'm layering stickers, I like to use foam squares underneath some of them to create shadows and depth.

#5 Give Stickers a WOW Factor: I wanted two "flags" on my layout so I used the flag stickers from the "Element Sticker" sheet on top of toothpicks to create my own flags. Look for ways to reuse the stickers.

These are just a few of the ways you can stretch a collection kit. Below I've suggested several collection kits that you might try using these same techniques.

  1. I loved this layout so I used it as inspiration for a football layout of my grandson. So cute!
