Goals for 2012

At nearly 40 years old, I've tucked more than a few "New Years" under my belt. I've also had enough to recognize that I'm not super great at keeping goals. I may start out strong, but then I taper off sometime in the spring with the things I want to change. One last observation I have is that I typically have the same goals EVERY single year: better health, stronger finances, time with family, etc. I would feel bad about that except that I know those are things I want to change in my life. So once again with the start of 2012 I am adding those items to my list again.

What will help me stay on track? For me it will require some constant reminders. My husband I are going to have a monthly meeting about our finances. As far as better health, I'll be implementing an exercise plan and a 30 day eating plan which our family can use and repeat for the most part throughout the year. And we will sit down and plan out our calendar year with activities for and with the kids built in. Hopefully having a firm plan will help me stay on top of things.

I wanted to document these goals for myself to coordinate with a challenge I have right now at Two Peas in a Bucket. While the challenge is to "journal about your goals," I wanted to show you how you can incorporate journaling onto your layout with something more interesting than just a flat paragraph. For this layout, I stitched together white envelopes onto my background cardstock. Then I filled them with photos of myself and the goals I want to accomplish this year. I cut the title with my Silhouette machine. Then I added some of that "flat paragraph" journaling to help support and explain what the layout was about:

Don't limit your journaling to one method! Try strips, bulleted lists, pockets, banners, etc. to dress it up and make it more interesting. You can still capture the theme and emotion of the layout but mix it up with more a more dynamic approach:

Be sure to check out the challenge here. It lasts through next Thursday. I'd love to see what you create!
