Technique Tuesday Bookmark

One thing that I love about the Ali Edwards stamp sets is the versatility they have. I can use them on a layout, for a card, on an altered project or even on a simple project like the bookmark I've created here. I am a voracious reader. (Frankly I could open up my own library with all the books that I own.) But one quirky thing about my reading habit is that I don't have bookmarks for my books. Sometimes I'll stick a piece of paper into the page, but most of the time I recite the page number over and over in my head before I fall asleep at night so I can find the page again the next time. Sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't.

This time I thought I'd make myself a little bookmark to hold my place. That is infinitely easier than a chanted number to mark my place.

I wanted something sophisticated and fairly flat with some detail so I used a teal, gray, and yellow color scheme and then layered from there. I only inked part of the open sentiment stamp to add to my bookmark. You can do this by inking the entire stamp and then wiping off a portion with a baby wipe. Or you can use stamping markers to color in only the portion of the image you want to stamp. Either way works great!

I used this stamp set to make the bookmark:

Now I'd love to hear what you've been reading! I'm hoping Santa brings me a few new books, but I'm going through a dry spell with great books right now and need some suggestions. So what is on your nightstand for reading right now?

  1. If you haven't read Ken Follet's Pillars of the Earth, try it. It's long, but so, so good. His novel Fall of Giants was also good.

Kristin Hannah's Winter Garden is another of my all-time favorites. She's a great writer if you just want a quick read.

I have Explosive Eighteen waiting for me..most likely going to get to read it AFTER Christmas though :) My mom, my sister, and I all have been reading and sharing this series and we're looking forward to seeing the movie together when it comes out next year.
My son will be making bookmarks Thursday as presents for his grandmas, he's going to add a simple braided floss bracelet as the string, since he's gotten into making lots of them:)
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

  5. Hi, Jen. Great bookmark and a wonderful last minute stocking stuffer idea! Thanks. I just finished "Under a Wild Sky," a biography of John James Audubon by Wm Souder. Audubon was a self-taught, enigmatic frontiersman in the early 19th century who immortalized the Birds of America through his life-size drawings published in London in mid-century. Great read.

  6. I just finished two books by Katarina Mazetti: "Shrimp and Benny" and the following book. It's a Swedidh author and I litterally devoured both books: GREAT STUFF!!
