Why Is It When You're Dieting?

* Your daily hunger keeps you distracted?

* You can stop at a stoplight and fantacize about eating ONE caramel square and enjoying it by biting it into small rectangle slivers?

* Kids purposely leave their cookies, candy, and treats out for you discover?

* It always falls over a great eating holiday?

* You start planning what you'll eat for the next meal while you're eating the current meal?

* Other people's success (your husband's) can make you irritable?

* You have serious thoughts about stockpiling Robin Eggs because by the time you're done with the diet these awesome sweets will be gone?

* Eating out suddenly becomes a depression experience and often ends in tears?

* You really start to berate yourself for putting on the pounds in the first place?

* That even though you know exercise will help in the getting fit approach, you still can't bring yourself to do it?

* That you have strong jealousy over knowing someone else is going to get to eat something you can't?

* That getting a healthy meal involves more cooking something you're not exactly a fan of doing?

Yep. I loving losing weight and eating better. :(

Keeping my eye on the prize:

Surely one of these dresses will look fabulous on me once I lose the weight. And then I won't stick out like a sore thumb at my brother's wedding. :)

Update: The dresses here are from Nordstroms.com. You can also find some similar ones at Macys.com. :)

  1. Jennifer, don't think about what you CAN'T eat. Think about having a choice - you can actually eat whatever you want, but you are deciding to NOT eat whatever it is, because you want something else more (to be healthy, feel better, be able to wear a certain item of clothing, etc). That way you won't feel deprived - you'll feel empowered by your ability to make a choice.

As for eating out, try to think of it as an chance to discover a meal that you might not otherwise have had, and maybe think about what you want to eat ahead of time - ie. a salad of some sort - and how you want it prepared (ie. dressing on the side, with grilled chicken, without cheese or with cheese on the side, etc). That way, when you get to the restaurant, you won't be looking through the whole menu and feeling deprived - you'll be looking for what you've decided to have and feeling good because you've already got it in your mind that that's what you're having. You could also "save" some of your calories from that day and treat yourself a little bit to dinnner out or whatever treat it is you want, but I'd probably employ the "avoidance" tactic and just eat healthy all the time. One "treat" can turn into several "treats" and that can turn into unwanted pounds and temptations!

Hang in there, and focus on how great you'll feel healthwise and how wonderful it will feel mentally once you've reached your goal!

  2. Thanks, Lizzy! You nailed me on the "one treat can turn into several treats." That's what got me here in the first place. LOL!

  3. Jen, I was wondering if you could share where those dresses are from. I love the brown ruffle top one, and the purple ruffled bottom is nice too.
I'm also going to a wedding - my cousin's in August. I know I shouldn't feel like I have to keep up w/ my skinny relatives, but I've still got weight goals to reach. More power to you on your own goals!

  4. I'm right there with you girl! I've been dieting for 3.5 mo and I've lost 15 lbs, but I still have at least 10 more to go. It seems like I lose weight every week and then we go out on the weekend and it ruins it all!grrr.... so frustrating!
