So for My Birthday . . .

No, it isn't today. But it is coming up, and I have a long tradition of not loving my birthday so I thought I'd take matters into my own hands and make my own plans this year. I'm trying to decide if I want to do something like a crop with my friends the night of the 13th or if I want to do lunch with them and then a date with my husband the night before. I just can't decide, but I don't want to have all the anxiety and stress of past birthdays so help me out!

So I'm looking for some good suggestions. And there's something in it for you!! Leave a suggestion of something fun you've done on your b-day, and I'll choose a lucky winner to receive this darling stamp set from Little Yellow Bicycle:

I'll really take any suggestions. LOL! I think if I have a better plan things won't be quite as depressing for this lady turning a whole year older. ;)

  1. Do what your heart desires. I like spending birthday with my husband and kids together. I know, BORING! to most. But hey, if that makes me and my family happy, that is all that matters. I just love seeing my kids blow out the candles. Kid just love that, don't they! And see how they enjoy the cake with all the cream smear all over their faces. lol. Just remember to be happy on YOUR DAY. No stress. Happy Birthday in advaice.

  2. I also take my birthday into my own hands. I have found that I am subconsciously not very nice to others on my birthday. For some reason, if it is not all about me, I pout (and I'm 46!?!). Anyway, I have learned that the best way to enjoy my birthdy is to spend it entirely alone going out of town shopping. I can look at what I want, buy what I want, eat what I want, etc. without being unconsciously rude to others. When I get home, I have had such a nice day that I will allow my family to take me out for dinner without the attached attitude.

  3. Do it ALL!!! Have a crop one day, go out to lunch on another day, dinner with the hubster and then have HIM plan a celebration with the kiddos. There! You can celebrate your day 4 times :D Make it what you want ~ no stress!

    PS - High five for December b-days!!! Mine's the 20th :D

What about visiting a tea room in the afternoon with some friends and then going out with your hubby in the evening? A good blend of girly and romance helps take my mind off of that increasing number! Whatever you do, I hope it's filled with love.

Its your day... so you better do whatever your little heart desires! I totally think an afternoon with the ladies sounds awesome! Maybe head out and do some shopping at favorite stores, hit an awesome restaurant for lunch... oh or go get a pedi with a group of friends. that IS a nice time too... and then let the hubby take you out for a nice dinner!

  7. First of all, its your birthday week!!! My birthday is in August, so we are usually away on vacation when we celebrate it. I like the idea of your girlfriend crop. I would figure out a way to include your kiddos on your b-day, too. Maybe they could help with breakfast in bed? You can finish off the night with a date with dh. I hope you enjoy it.

  8. My 4 year old daughter decided what I get to do my birthday this year. I work full-time and want to spend my nights and weekends with my kids, so I really don't care what I do on my birthday as long as it was with them. She really wanted to go to the Kangaroo Zoo and Chuck-E-Cheese for her birthday, but I made her choose one of them. After she decided she came up with the brillant idea that mom gets to go to Chuck-E-Cheese for her birthday, so that's what were doing (and I'm kind of excited, I haven't been there in years).

  9. I like to spend the day with my DH and the kids. I get to lie in and then get treated like a queen, lol. Whenever the nearest Friday or Saturday night arrives that is closest to my birthday, David and I go out. I like to celebrate with him first, I feel like I'm more excited because I haven't done anything for it yet. Then the following weekend on either the Saturday or Sunday, my girlfriends and I will go for either dinner or lunch depending on who it is :-). Stress shouldn't be attached to birthday's. It's the only day of the year that is ACTUALLY all about you! Do whatever makes you happy and take as long as you need to celebrate it so that you can fit everybody in, lol. Most of all, enjoy it!

  12. I have a history of "not so great birthdays", too, so I can sympathize.

For my birthdays now, I like DH and DD to "have the opportunity" (LOL!) to do something nice for me on my special day, so I tell them what I'd like them to do for me (since I want to make sure I enjoy it!), and then I sit back and soak it all in, and enjoy every last moment of it. For instance, I bake everyone else nice cakes for their birthday, and I usually make one for my own birthday too if people are coming over. But one year I said that I wanted a nice cake that I DIDN'T have to make myself. They went out and bought me an ice cream cake that was really yummy, and we really enjoyed eating it together. I got something I wanted, and they had the enjoyment of going out to get me something they knew I wanted, and then we enjoyed sharing together in the eating of it.

I also planned a nice dinner out for my DH and myself one year. Since I'm "frugal", I went to an "eat free on your birthday" place, and DH and I had a yummy dinner. Then when the waitress asked me if I'd like everyone to sing to me, I said "Yes - I would like that". DH thought I was crazy, but when all the waitstaff came over and serenaded me, I just sat their smiling and soaking it all in. It was FUN!

One year when I was younger I told my parents that I wanted to go on a drive and a picnic, so that's what we did (although it might be too cold for a picnic in December, LOL!). It was simple, inexpensive, but was exactly what I wanted to do.

I think a scrapbooking day with your friends sounds wonderful. But make sure you wear a birthday tiara, a feather boa, and make a "nametag" up out of your scrappy supplies that says "Birthday Girl" on it, in really big letters. It's your special day, so make sure EVERYONE knows it!!!

I also like to spread my birthday out over several days. Why can't you have a family celebration with your family one night, a nice dinner out with your DH another night, and a day with your female friends scrapping on yet another day? I do enough stuff for everyone else that I DESERVE several special days to celebrate my birthday, KWIM???

Make sure you share with us here what you decide to do exactly. I, for one, can't wait to hear!

Oh - and in case I don't get a chance to say this before your birthday: Have a great one!!!

  13. I was having a hard time this year turning another year older so my fiancee arranged with my mom weeks in advance for her to watch the kids (we have 4 boys) and he took me to the movies and dinner. An actual date, that we haven't done since before our now almost 4 year old was born. It was SO needed and it was great. I scrapped that day some too. So I say do the dinner with your husband for sure, and the lunch with the girls the next day and some scrappy time too. Have a good day.

  14. I think taking matters into your own hands is smart.

If it were me, I'd probably do the crop thing with friendes because I don't get to do that very often and I LOVE IT! Although, I'd probably make hubby take me out to eat for breakfast or something too. The less cooking that day, the better. ;)

I hope you enjoy your birthday, whatever you decide to do.

    Cute stamps :-)

This year I went to the temple all by myself- it was great! Such a lovely break with my hubby deployed. I got a sitter and just drove and enjoyed myself :-)

The year before I was a birthday grinch and my husband showed up with a princess crown, Ratatouille, and an ice cream cake :-) That was fun too!

I agree with those who said do what you want, and do many things! My birthday is at the end of August, so I like to get a beach day in with my hubby and the kids. That's always my first choice. In our family, the birthday person gets the dinner of their choice prepared at home, and we also dine out at the restaurant of their choice. One of these is always on the day, but day of the week determines when we do what. My kids also still have parties with their friends, and I love to do girlfriend things to celebrate another year. Now, my husband would just like to golf on his birthday, so we try to make sure he gets to do that (June, so it usually works!) Bottom line is I think you should do lots of things with lots of people, both family and friends, as long as it makes YOU happy! A crop would work for me! Enjoy it and relax!!

  19. I think you should sleep in, then go to lunch with your girlfriends, have a family dinner where they fix it for you if possible or go to dinner, then the next day go to lunch with your husband and that night have the late night crop with your girlfriends- you could even spread it out for your birthday week and do things with lots of groups of friends if you like - i love my birthday week - it is in August. I love being oohed and aahhed over as much as possible. Happy Birthday to you soon!

  20. I have little time to myself, so for my birthday, I always have my husband watch the kids so I can shop, get my hair done, etc. in the afternoon. THEN, we get a babysitter and go out to a stress-free, kidfree dinner and movie. :) Happy birthday!

  21. Happy Birthday, a little early! Have a birthday weekend, like my friend just did! Friday night was date night with the hubby, Saturday was a day long crop with friends and then Sunday was celebrating with her extended family! Why limit it to just one day when you can extend it for 3??

  22. I say do what makes you SMILE!! 2 years ago I had a friend help me plan a tinker bell party. I had about 15 women come and we had a blast. This year I just went to dinner with my hubby and that was fun as well. That is why I say do what makes you SMILE each year it may be something different that makes you smile.

By the way it was great meeting you at lunch with everyone!!!
